The Nevada Southern Railway and the Nevada State Railroad Museum have seen their budgets cut dramatically over the past few years.  They are almost entirely volunteer run and rely heavily on their volunteers to keep the trains and museum functioning.  

"We have many opportunities for various positions and projects. At the shop, there are the constant repairs that are needed to continue operations with our elderly equipment. There are restoration projects that have been initiated by individuals and by groups. In conjunction with school visits, we provide docent presentations. We provide volunteers for all of the station and train operating positions. And, of course, provide training in railroad operations via a progression through the various positions. But best of all, we have fun.
